Clinical Associate Professor Amanda Oakley has been a specialist dermatologist in Hamilton since 1986. She qualified from Bristol in 1979 and then emigrated to the Waikato. Her postgraduate training in dermatology was undertaken in New Zealand and the United Kingdom (Westminster and Durham). She is Clinical Director of the Department of Dermatology at Health Waikato and is a Clinical Associate Professor at Waikato Clinical School (Auckland University School of Medicine). She is a member of the New Zealand Dermatological Society, the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Diseases and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She is also a Director of the Waikato Skin Research Association at Tristram Clinic and Trustee of the Waikato Medical Research Foundation. She was President of Waikato Postgraduate Medicine Inc. 2000-2004, and is President-Elect of the New Zealand Dermatological Society Incorporated (2009-2011).
Professor Oakley manages the New Zealand Dermatological Society's successful web site, DermNet NZ as well as that of the Australia and New Zealand Vulvovaginal Society. She has published numerous articles in the medical literature.
Dr Oakley is an experienced general clinical dermatologist. She is particularly interested in the management of acne, psoriasis, skin cancer and ageing skin, photosensitivity and gynaecological skin disorders. Academic interests include teaching, dermatological information on the Internet, medical management of skin cancer, dermoscopy and telemedicine.
